[ Somehow, he has gotten himself cornered by some of the drone boys from his class, despite wanting to eat lunch in peace. He's just sitting at the end of the table, munching on his sandwich with a bored look on his face while the others yammer on about girls, sports, movies... whatever. Touma can't be bothered to even try to feign interest as he has way too much on his mind from last week's "adventure".

[ All done with his obligations for the day, he heads into the diner. He isn't looking for anything in particular; he isn't even that hungry. But he had called Mikoto because he really needs to talk to someone about what's been going on. Touma doesn't know who else can be any closer to the center of this situation than him, and still be someone he can trust.

Guess there's one way to find out -- but he arrived really early, so there could still be time for distractions... ]

Maybe so. I've seen my share of some unbelievable stuff. I still can't figure some of it out, but the situations were taken care of so I don't think about it that often.

You're not curious in the least what you encountered?

[ A shrug of a shoulder. ] I only cared about what they were doing, not how they were doing it. Abusing an advantage to hurt innocent people is something I can't stand, no matter what kind of power that is or where it comes from.

Oh, so you're the heroic type.

I'd think understanding how they do what they do would help you to counteract them in the future.

I can do that easily enough by just watching them and learning that way. It's not like they're going to stand there and give me a detailed breakdown of how their ability works and then let me formulate some kind of counter.

There are somethings you can pick up by watching, but understanding how espers or magic works would probably give you a lot more insight into how to combat them, supposing they follow any kind of set rules.

If it's magic or the supernatural, I'm not interested. In the end, even if it's a miracle from God, it doesn't matter. [ Said with a sigh. ]

Not intrigued in the least?

If I told you I was, what difference would it make? You could say I'm only as curious as hearing about it would fill in for all the free time I have here.

I'm just amazed you can willingly choose ignorance to phenomena that you've encountered first-hand and, from the sounds of it, fought against.

[ Sighing. ] Think whatever you want, but I'm not interested in learning the inner workings of things that shouldn't rightfully exist. Next you'll want to know why I don't study zombies, just because I fought those, too. [ Well, mostly ran. ]

Well, it's questionable whether you'll encounter more of those in the future, given the nature and origin of the event. But the same can't exactly be said of those from your world with magic, can it?

Maybe not, but I haven't met them yet-- [ That has been obvious, at any rate. ] --so how am I gonna learn from people that aren't even here?

...well, I'll admit it'll be hard if not impossible if there aren't any such people from your world trapped in this place as well. I just meant in general, like when you were back home.

I'll worry about that when I get back home. [ Not "if". ] Right now, I've got to stay focused on the people who are here with me, and what this place can do.

Fair enough. You at least care to learn about that aspect, right?

Right. Especially as since people keep telling me I should keep my head down and not try to resist.

But after seeing what happens here, how could I ever do something like that?

Such the hero. Well, at least our captors are nice enough to give you unlimited lives.

[ He winces. ] I don't plan on taking them up on that offer anytime soon.

But you also plan not to stick with caution.

I plan on doing what it takes. [ Glancing about, to make sure no drones have edged back over their direction. ] That's why I signed up with Sanguinius and the others. To fight back.

Oh, so you're part of that group? I guess I'm not surprised.

What sort of skills do you offer?

I can hold my own in a fight, and I know some pretty powerful people from back home who are here, too. [ Scarily so, as far as he's concerned. ] I don't really want to see them involved, or get hurt, but I know this town won't obey my wishes and they would probably be insistent, too.

That's a pretty vague answer.

Are you thinking about joining up too, or something?
