[ Somehow, he has gotten himself cornered by some of the drone boys from his class, despite wanting to eat lunch in peace. He's just sitting at the end of the table, munching on his sandwich with a bored look on his face while the others yammer on about girls, sports, movies... whatever. Touma can't be bothered to even try to feign interest as he has way too much on his mind from last week's "adventure".

Maybe someone with something to say can save him? ]

[ All done with his obligations for the day, he heads into the diner. He isn't looking for anything in particular; he isn't even that hungry. But he had called Mikoto because he really needs to talk to someone about what's been going on. Touma doesn't know who else can be any closer to the center of this situation than him, and still be someone he can trust.

Guess there's one way to find out -- but he arrived really early, so there could still be time for distractions... ]

Touma stands up out of his seat, one foot on the chair and arms up defensively. ] Whoa, whoa, whoa! You don't have to go that far! Doesn't that hurt? Won't that bleed if you pull it out? I don't even know how far the hospital is from here...

Maybe, but no matter what you're choosing to keep it. What kind of person does that? That's like keeping a bullet handy in a wound when it'd be easier to just have it taken out if removing it won't kill you. [ And, since she pulled out the knife, obviously it won't do that. ]

I'm guessing you don't actual know the term in the sense I use it.

In this world - no, I suppose I should say, "in my world" - there are three kinds of people: Normals, Specials and Abnormals.

[Well, and Minus and Not-Equal, but that didn't make sense without explaining Abnormals first]

Normals are as they sound: normal people. Specials are what you would call "talented", good in one or more areas, and often very versatile. Abnormals though are those that defy logic in simply how twisted from the normal reality, with no regard for skill, talent, luck or genius. Someone with perfect reflexes, someone with absolute empathy, someone whose very words become physical law... they're not people you could simply consider Special.

Oh, you have things like that?

It's... not exactly the same. It's not like any of them have things that would so conveniently follow the laws of science, or even the arcane structures of magic.

Magic's not even supposed to exist -- or so I was told. It's already impossible, but I've seen enough weird things to make me question that. So I can't tell you how they do that stuff back home. Sorry.

...yeah, magic is just fantasy where I come from; complete fiction. Though since science can rarely explain it, it's not like you couldn't call some Abnormals magical.

Maybe so. I've seen my share of some unbelievable stuff. I still can't figure some of it out, but the situations were taken care of so I don't think about it that often.

[ A shrug of a shoulder. ] I only cared about what they were doing, not how they were doing it. Abusing an advantage to hurt innocent people is something I can't stand, no matter what kind of power that is or where it comes from.

I'd think understanding how they do what they do would help you to counteract them in the future.

I can do that easily enough by just watching them and learning that way. It's not like they're going to stand there and give me a detailed breakdown of how their ability works and then let me formulate some kind of counter.
